I received two responses to my emails from organizations that deal with migrants and Open/Closed Centres and both seem keen to assist me with my research. The first was from the Agency for the Welfare of Asylum Seekers (AWAS). They are the department of the Ministry for Justice and Home Affairs that is responsible for Open Centres in Malta and so a great contact to have. They seemed interested in my research and mentioned that they will be able to arrange a meeting with a representative from AWAS as well as visits to the Open Centres - presumably Hal Far and Marsa. The second response was from the NGO Get Up Stand Up. They also expressed a willingness to assist me with my research but did not specify in what way. As a Non-governmental Organization, Get Up Stand Up should offer an interesting counter-perspective compared to the government-run AWAS. I am grateful to both organizations for their positive responses and it gives me hope that I will be able to get a real sense of the migrant situation in Malta.
